Welcome to Business English for Dummies, English for Business, for Francophone readers struggling with English. Does this mean that this language confronts us with obstacles that are not met by others? Would it be more difficult for us, when it includes so many words close to French? Well yes ! English is difficult for all, and it presents additional difficulties for people with French mother tongue. But before examining these difficulties and how to overcome them, it is important to dispel a misunderstanding. The myth of easy English English is easy for residents of continental Europe because they can easily acquire enough English to communicate with each other as best they can. Their languages offer, with English, analogies resulting from common sources like Latin and Germanic languages. And as the languages of Europe have borrowed a great deal from one another, they abound with words which resemble each other. These resemblances are as many gateways to a first level of English that some call globish, contraction of global English, and that others, perhaps because globish rhymes with rubbish, prefer to call international English.
